The layout of the entire space revolves around the central rainforest courtyard. The courtyard, as an extension of the building and a buffer between life and nature, has been an important part of human habitation since ancient times.
The interior borrows from the courtyard, and the courtyard feeds the interior space. In the negotiation area, natural wind and light are introduced into the building, blurring the boundaries between indoor and outdoor spaces and enabling mutual penetration. As Jinmao's first “full” series - a project mainly featuring vacation - the design responds to the core demands of modern urbanites, presenting a flowing living field - light and wind, light, wind, vegetation and human relationships are interwoven and symbiotic inside and outside the building.

The concept is inspired by 2001: A Space Odyssey. The appearance of a black monolith provoked thought in the primitive apes, sparking their imagination and creativity. It marks the beginning of a journey through time and the universe — an exploration of life, civilization, and the unknown.
We are exploring how traditional Tibetan cultural architecture can inspire a futuristic spatial design experience. By drawing from the raw materiality, spatial qualities, and natural light inherent in Tibetan vernacular architecture, we aim to construct a mysterious and imaginative environment — a space that serves as a multicultural club for leisure, entertainment, and immersive experiences.

This project redefines the clubhouse by blending Eastern culture with modern lifestyle aesthetics. Originality lies in reinterpreting classic elements like the Forbidden City’s purlins and Daming Lake’s tranquility into a minimalist, de-commercialized space. Functionally, it simulates real living scenarios and includes diverse amenities such as children’s areas, nursing rooms, yoga spaces, and interactive lounges. The spatial design emphasizes fluidity, privacy, and openness with large-scale compositions, natural materials, and soft colors, creating a serene, luxurious atmosphere. Aesthetically, handcrafted metal screens, textured stone, and heritage crafts like Suzhou embroidery and lacquerware add artistic charm. How do breathe new life into a historical boat club without losing its character? To revitalize while preserving its essence, the design focused on three key concepts:
Nautical Themes
The design draws from maritime inspiration, with playful portals and forms. Dynamic wooden strips on the facade mimic a boat hull, while The Galley restaurant features a 3D bar counter and vaulted ceilings, echoing boat designs for a nautical experience.
Historical Elements
Key heritage features were preserved, like the hexagonal staircase, highlighted with layered wood textures. The lounge embraces the existing hexagonal layout and iconic arches for reception, displays, and pathways—blending old and new.
Accent Colours
A sunset-inspired palette—blues, greens, oranges, and yellows—reflects the maritime spirit. At The Galley, these hues harmonise, evoking tranquillity and celebrating members’ love of the sea.
Through thoughtful design, the club retains its heritage while embracing modern nautical reinterpretations, staying true to its identity.
