Inebi

Designer has designed Inebi, a newly envisioned Japanese food concept located in Urban Hood, Hysan Place. The design of Inebi takes inspiration from traditional Japanese architecture focusing on wooden construction, modular design, Japanese lattice-work, and the architecture of 'engawa' or Japanese style verandahs.

Within the brand's name Inebi - 'Ine' in Japanese means 'Rice', a central theme to the restaurant's concept. Using rice as design inspiration, Designer took the Japanese 'hangiri'; a traditional, large, shallow wooden tub used for preparing sushi rice, to form a focal feature in the design.

Aside from the Hangiri, Designer studied traditional Japanese wood jointing systems, and abstracted a modular system which would delicately display a series of rice-paper-textured acrylic features cut in the oval shape of rice. With each 'grain' overlapping another below, the system was symbolic of raw rice - still unhusked and fixed to the stem.

Most traditional buildings in Lhasa are rammed or built with local stones, wood and adobe as the main materials. The walls are trapezoidal from the perimeter to the interior. Traditional construction techniques and inwardly inclined structural forms are adopted to maintain good thermal insulation and facilitate drainage. Nowadays, in this land of heavy modernism, we try to restore the appearance of the place of that time - the simplicity and essence based on the way of life during the agrarian civilization.

Hide . THE SMOKED ROOM

"Hide" is a concept restaurant that celebrates the art of charcoal grilling in the heart of Shanghai.

The interior design blends modernity with vintage charm, where East meets West. Imagine hand-painted wallpapers with Eastern motifs, vintage green European screens, and rustic aged red brick. These elements create an immersive dining experience, creating an 18th-century European ambiance infused with Oriental charm.

A lantern depicting the "Seven Lucky Gods" from Japanese Mythology hangs over the stone itamae countertop, it is a visual contrast with the surroundings, that echoes the Japanese fusion cuisine theme. It perfectly embodies the brand's ethos of "creativity and fusion," while exuding a vintage charm and energy.

In terms of visual aesthetics, this case uses a wide range of circles and columns, annular ceiling lights in the shape of sun rings, Su-style doorways in the shape of full moon, classic columns of garden corridors, supplemented by bright and simple lines, with distinctive features and harmonious nature. In the guest area, the lighting is combined with the acrylic installation art (the installation is in the shape of a floating object, pointing to the concept of "hovering"), adding visual highlights on the basis of maintaining the unity of materials.
