Inebi

Designer has designed Inebi, a newly envisioned Japanese food concept located in Urban Hood, Hysan Place. The design of Inebi takes inspiration from traditional Japanese architecture focusing on wooden construction, modular design, Japanese lattice-work, and the architecture of 'engawa' or Japanese style verandahs.

Within the brand's name Inebi - 'Ine' in Japanese means 'Rice', a central theme to the restaurant's concept. Using rice as design inspiration, Designer took the Japanese 'hangiri'; a traditional, large, shallow wooden tub used for preparing sushi rice, to form a focal feature in the design.

Aside from the Hangiri, Designer studied traditional Japanese wood jointing systems, and abstracted a modular system which would delicately display a series of rice-paper-textured acrylic features cut in the oval shape of rice. With each 'grain' overlapping another below, the system was symbolic of raw rice - still unhusked and fixed to the stem.

In Zhuangzi · On the Equality of Things, it was said that Nanguo Ziqi, who sat resting on his armrest, said, "Now I have lost myself," and reached the state where he is oblivious of body and mind, and of self and its surroundings. Similarly, in The Great and Most Honored Master, "Confucius said, 'What do you mean by saying that you sit and forget (everything)?' Yan Hui replied, 'My connexion with the body and its parts is dissolved; my perceptive organs are discarded. Thus leaving my material form, and bidding farewell to my knowledge, I am become one with the Great Pervader. This I call sitting and forgetting all things.'" To the external architecture and internal exhibits, we exist only as a medium, connecting people, objects and architecture, melting into the architecture, expressing our works, blanking ourselves, and hearing the sounds of the heaven after "losing self".

The Villa at the Hong Kong Peak

This is an interior renovation of an 18-year-old, 1000-square-meter villa in Hong Kong's prestigious Victoria Peak, that reflects the owners' preferences for natural materials and personalized design.Perceiving a home can be seen as a large piece of furniture: a structure designed to support and enhance the activities of daily living. Just as a well-crafted chair or table combines beauty and utility, so too should our homes. They should be designed with attention to detail, with an eye for esthetics, and with a deep understanding of human experience. Material exploration is not only done by craftsmanship but also by technology, such as vast use of CNC machining and 3D printing. A home, like a piece of fine furniture, should invite interaction, inspire admiration, and stand the test of time. It should be a testament to the values of craftsmanship, sustainability, and emotional richness.

ZITO DESIGN STUDIO
Following the Light

This project is situated on the top floor of the building. The designer, upon the original roof and in combination with the indoor functional layout, also drew inspiration from the garden tour format of oriental gardens and excavated two courtyards, one large and one small. This has significantly enhanced the indoor lighting and air circulation. As the sunlight changes, the flowing light and shadow scattered in the space create a distinctive atmosphere and evoke certain emotions. This is not merely a workplace but also a space for purifying the soul, enabling people to unwind amidst their busyness. The flexible and free space design encourages everyone to pursue the future, forge ahead towards the light, and seek the meaning of life.
